What a Great Book!

Praise written by John Henry of Veterans for Peace

Fashion Fighter is a very thought provoking book that everyone should read to their classes, especially in elementry school.

“A nation’s highest praise and status are accorded to soldiers who defend the nation through the extermination of its enemies. Children in schools are taught to hold military leaders in highest esteem and are educated to serve in the military -----”. These are words by Joseph Fahey, Professor of Religious Studies at Manhattan College in his book War & the Christian Conscience Where Do You Stand?“.

Joe is very right on this subject. Schools should teach the children that Peace is the way and not war. They should teach them to hold those who work for peace and justice in the highest esteem and praise. That is what "Fashion Fighter"(Cheeks) learned from R-Daddy and her grand parants. She took action to try and correct the many wrongs she saw happening around her and to her R-Daddy and parents. She has courage and tenacity to do what she feel needs to be done. She is the "Super Hero" of our times. She could be the example for all the kids and adults who are living with their heads in the sand and not seeing the unjustice that surrounds them.

It is sad that the teachers have to fear teaching the truth. You are too young to remember how the Germans were taught to hate and how to fight war. It led to the murder of millions because the teachers would not stand up for justice. Daddy Acosta was brave enough to take a stand against the school board. It is like another teacher I know. Her name is Deborah O'Dowd. I stand up and applaud you for your bravery and moral conscience.
I hope someday to be wearing a tee shirt with swirls and pictures of the dead children of war (to show people the horrible reality). I hope someday I will see them on the campuses of schools and around the malls. Someday I hope to see more brave young students like Cheeks starting a movement to end war and start peace in our country. Someday I hope to see people like R-Daddy and others I see everyday get the treatment they need for PTSD and other medical needs without having to fight another war to receive what they have earned.

There is hope and I believe it is possible.

Keep up the great writing!!!!!

Peace,
John
